#FridayReads - Unpopular Culture by Guvna B

Our E-Commerce Executive Vita shares her thoughts on Unpopular Culture by Guvna B

I read Unpopular Culture by Guvna B in one sitting, simply because each new page is as gripping as the previous one. This book is about each and every one of us, about our inner struggles, the demons we have to face daily and the faith we find within our hearts to keep going forward and become better people.

Guvna B shares his life story in such a transparent and honest way; anyone can relate to his experiences. He tells us about growing up in a council estate, getting involved with reckless youngsters from the block, making important choices, fighting through his problems, and finding faith in God, trusting God with his life.

Reading this book helps a reader realize that all of us make choices and face struggles every day. The difference is in the choices we make and what influences us. Guvna B grew up in a Christian family and it took him some time to realize that faith is what truly guides our hearts and souls. He went through rough times at school, trying to establish himself among his peers, making mistakes, and taking wrong turns. He realized that what was most important was to know that we are never alone. God is always there watching over us. We feel his presence and it makes our lives so much brighter.

As he matured, Guvna B grew more involved with church and enrolled in university. He became a grime/rap artist and eventually dated the girl of his dreams. He describes his experience with such openness.

He soon realized that his true calling was to spread the word of God, and his book became part of that mission.

Each chapter has quotes from the Bible that relate to his experience and reflections of the aftermath of his life events. These quotes are motivational and moving and they fit perfectly with Guvna’s story. Any reader can see their own life experience in Guvna B’s story.

This book makes a perfect gift. It will make you think about the path you have chosen, the decisions you have made and the ones you keep making each day. It will reaffirm purpose and meaning in your life. God created us to spread love and peace around, not vanity, selfishness, and unkindness to others. When we experience hard times, we should always remember that God is with us. He has been there all the way though and always will be. Let’s learn from our mistakes, strengthen our faith in God, and believe that everything happens for a reason.
