SPCK’s chance to win £1,000

SPCK’s chance to win £1,000

Why nominate SPCK?

With all bookshops closed for the time being, this is a challenging time for publishers but we have chosen to respond with generosity and winning this award would enable us to continue being generous. To date we have adjusted our usual approach to permissions fees so that churches, charities and schools will usually be able to use material from our books digitally free of charge including in streamed services. A number of authors have also asked us to make their e-books available free of charge, to help people stuck at home have access to good reading materials.

Diffusion BooksAnd despite the challenges of coronavirus and the lockdown we have seen our charitable programmes adapt and increase their output. An award of £1000 could help us continue reprinting and delivering Diffusion books to provide positive activities for those in prison spending 23 hours a day in their cells. Since the lockdown we have already rapidly responded to requests from staff at 60 prisons for a total of 10641 Diffusion Books.

“You are amazing. These books are going to help so much. Thank you. For this and for all the incredible work you are doing. It makes a difference.” Prison Library Service Advisor, Staffordshire, May 2020

Alternatively, an award of £1000 could help create design, produce and edit 10 brand new videos to share stories from SPCK books with parents and teachers home schooling and for the new #faithathome bedtime stories. In times of uncertainty we have heard from teachers and parents that routine activities such as an online reflection/collective act of worship or a bedtime story are proving vital in maintaining a sense of normality.

Thank you so much for these resources you have provided. They are so helpful in these strange times. Head teacher, Kent.

Mark Hews, Group CEO of Ecclesiastical, says: “We’re delighted to announce the launch of Ecclesiastical’s Movement for Good awards for the second year running. The coronavirus is having a major impact on charities and many are facing financial difficulties. Our Movement for Good awards will continue to help charities at a time when they need it most and we know that for many charities, £1,000 can make a real difference.
