SPCK and the Lord Mayor’s Show

SPCK and the Lord Mayor’s Show

This year the request was for a King James Bible, which remains a popular choice in keeping with the historic nature of the occasion.

The presentation of the Bible was made by the Dean of St Paul’s, the Very Revd Dr David Ison, outside the Cathedral where the procession stops for the Lord Mayor to receive a blessing on his way from Guildhall to the Royal Courts of Justice to swear allegiance to the Crown. The Lady Mayoress was riding side-saddle in the procession and did not risk dismounting!

More than 7,000 people and 70 floats took part in the parade, which goes back to 1215 when the Lord Mayor’s Show began as a river pageant on the Thames.  Like last year, participants and spectators had to brave the rain but it’s always a popular event whatever the weather.

SPCK receives a mention in the television coverage, and we are very pleased to be part of this historic City of London occasion.  The new Lord Mayor, Alderman Charles Bowman, has expressed his thanks to the Society for the generous gift of the Bible.
