Stories and salad bars: catching up with Paul Kerensa

Paul Kerensa is a busy comedian and author. We caught up with him about his plans for 2019.

1. Which book has been your favourite to read with your family in 2018?

We’ve had great fun reading The Big Bible Storybook. Those lovely dolls in the pics are fantastic for bringing the stories to life. The kids love ‘em - it just brings a whole new dimension having real made characters rather than illustrations (and I say that as someone whose books have illustrations - it’s nice to have a change!)

2. Whose comedy always makes you laugh?

Lee Mack is my boss (I write Not Going Out with him) - but he always surprises me on Would I Lie To You, the panel show. Boy, his brain is fast. No one can get a word in, but you don’t mind, because that is one quick wit he’s got there.

3. What has been your favourite part of performing?

The festivals are always a highlight. Spring Harvest this year was packed out for the After Hours show; Greenbelt was a joy as ever, and - bonus - no rain!

4. What do you look forward to most in 2019?

More of the same. Only different. Another new children’s book. More gigging. More writing on the way to gigs, mostly in Harvester restaurants. I just love a salad bar...
