Who is Wiley? Wiley is an Academic publisher and full-Service book distributor offering a premium distribution/fulfilment service that is highly regarded throughout the industry. Wiley has been in publishing for over 200 years and the UK/EMEA Distribution business for over 35 years.

Why change?
Since SPCK and Lion Hudson merged in 2021, we’ve been operating out of two different warehouses, Macmillan Distribution and Marston Book Services. We want to improve clarity and the level of service we offer to our customers. Following a tender process to select a consolidated distributor in the UK, Wiley was selected.  All Trade Customers 14 July 2022
When does this come into action? Date?  On September 1st, 2022, Wiley will begin servicing all volume that was previously with MDL. On February 1st, 2023, Wiley will also take on servicing all volume that is currently at Marston Distribution Services. All Trade Customers 14 July 2022

Will I need to open a trade account with Wiley? 

In Phase 1, existing accounts are being transferred from MDL to Wiley.

If you do not have an account with either MDL or Wiley, you will need to open one.

Will trade terms change in terms of Credit?  There are different credit limits set depending on type of customer. For example, a private individual has to pre-pay all orders. Corporate customers will have a smaller credit limit than for example a high-street bookshop. Individual credit limits on accounts are reviewed and amended by the Accounts Receivable Team, depending on the amount of turnover and on how promptly they settle their account. If the customer already has an account at Wiley, the Wiley terms will apply.  All Trade Customers 14 July 2022

What Imprints will be at Wiley? 

Phase 1 of the transfer will take place from MDL as of the 1st September 2022 and the following Imprints will be at Wiley - SPCK, Keswick Ministries, Crossway, Diffusion, IVP, IVP USA, UCCF, St Vlads

Phase 2 of the Transfer which will take place by 1st February 2023 and will include the following Imprints from Marston Book Services – Candle, Lion Books/Fiction/Scholar, Monarch, Kregel.

All product currently distributed by Marston Distribution Services is planned to transition to Wiley on February 1st, 2023.

If I order digitally Via Pubeasy/EDI, do I need to do anything? 

No. Once Wiley is live as the distributor, searches of relevant titles will be directed to Wiley by the PubEasy services. Wiley will be sending out Price and Availability feeds for SPCK titles so that any other retailer subscribing to either the Wiley ONIX or updates from Nielsen, will begin directing orders to Wiley (either to CS or via EDI) as the registered distributor.

What will happen to my backorders/Dues that I have ordered with Macmillan? 

All dues will be transferred to Wiley from MDL and MBS on the 1st September 2022 and 1st February 2023 respectively.

Will there be a period we can’t order? 

There will be no break in availability or the ability for you to order titles.

What happens to my returns during the transition period? 

All returns will be accepted by MDL until 30th November 2022. All returns should be sent to the invoicing distributor. Information about MBS returns will be shared towards the end of 2022

What happens to with regards to promotions? 

SPCK will continue to offer promotions to booksellers through Wiley, details of which will be shared in our SPCK sales presentations. Regarding any promotions that occur during the transition period, details of how these will work, and the relevant returns processes will be shared in the terms of the promotion.

To confirm, there is no order minimum? A single book order will incur zero postage charge? 

There are no order minimum rules imposed on the customer. All trade orders within the UK are sent post free and there is no charge to the customer. However, we may hold an order for a maximum of 2 days and consolidate with subsequent orders. This only applies to UK bookshops and does not apply to wholesalers and library supplies unless they have specified consolidation rules. For complementary orders there is no charge to the receiver.

Orders supplied to a consolidator within the UK are delivered free of charge, but the customer will pay the shipping charges from the consolidator’s location. This relates to foreign trade customers. All other orders incur postage charges, depending on weight, type of service and destination.
