His reputation was established by his classic Dirt, Greed and Sex: Sexual ethics in the New Testament and their implications for today (Fortress Press 1988, revised ed 2007), but he is also known for works of spirituality, such as Living on the Border of the Holy (Morehouse, 1999), and Forgiven and Forgiving (Morehouse, 1998). He writes occasionally for the Church Times.
